ORCAS IN WINTER — Lightweight Wool & Silk Shawl — New Design
I’m glad to introduce you to my new design, “Orcas in Winter.”
This shawl is made from 70% wool and 30% silk. It measures 180 by 120 centimeters, or about 70.8 by 47.2 inches. This print is my hand-drawn exclusive digital painting. The fabric is soft and lightweight, making it easy to style in many different ways. You can wear it layered for extra warmth on colder days, or draped loosely as a light wrap when the weather is milder. Its size and texture also allow it to transform into a scarf, a poncho-like wrap, or an elegant oversized accessory.
The inspiration for this piece came from winter on the Pacific Northwest Coast, where I live. Winters here are cool, misty, and incredibly beautiful. On the shawl, you can see foggy mountains blending into the ocean landscape, with two orcas at the center, surrounded by the sun, the moon, and ornamental baroque details. These bright accents stand out against the soft monochrome background, adding contrast and depth.
Orcas are magnificent creatures that live in rhythm with the ocean’s cycles, guided by the tides, the sun, and the moon. In my design, their circular composition hints at the symbol of Yin and Yang — a reminder of balance, duality, and harmony in nature.
This piece brings together warmth, elegance, and a touch of the Pacific Northwest spirit, creating a versatile accessory that feels both timeless and expressive.
With Love,
Kristina
